Read ch. 6 in Crowley and Bowern. There’ll be a quiz on this reading at the start of class.
On 11 May, we’ll be having a review for the final exam, so bring any lingering questions you may have!

Read Trask ch. 11. There will be a quiz on this reading at the start of class.
For 27 April
- Read Trask ch.7
- Write a first draft of your final paper. Intro, body, conclusion, and full references. (This is just a first draft!) 1,200 words. (Due 11:59pm.)
For 13 April
By 11:59pm on 13 April, submit an annotated bibliography for your final paper. The details of this assignment will be shared with you in class.
For 6 April
Read chapter 5 in the Crowley & Bowern book. There’ll be a quiz on this reading at the start of next class. We’ll spend about half of this week’s class discussing this chapter.
The second half of this week’s class will be dedicated to research: how to conduct it online, and how to find good sources. With my help, you will find some sources for your final paper. Before class, make sure you’re able to log into the CSI Library’s website and/or the NYPL’s website.

For 23 March, please read chapter 2 in Crowley & Bowern’s An Introduction to Historical Linguistics. You will be given Quiz #6 at the beginning of class, covering this reading.
For 16 March
- Read Trask 5 and pp. 144–148 in Algeo (2). There will be a quiz on these readings at the start of class.
- By 11:59pm, submit the first draft of the Introduction to your final paper. It must be at least 300 words long, and it should set out, specifically, what your paper will be discussing and how. For more specific requirements and tips, please read this document.

Read Trask, chapter 4, and John Algeo’s “Where Do All the New Words Come From?” Both can be found on our Readings page. There will be a quiz at the start of class on these readings.

Read ch.3 in Trask and the article by Nancy Bonvillain. There will be a quiz on these readings at the start of class. (We’ll work with the Caxton reading in class.)
